We were able to make our second donation in support of neurological research! This  $1,000 went to the Douglas Foundation, specifically supporting Dr. Gustavo Turecki’s research.

 

His lab aims to address the important problem of attempted and completed suicides. People who suffer from major depression are especially at risk, and so, it is important to better understand what characteristics increase this risk. These include things like early development, personality traits, and neurobiological factors, with a special focus on how the environment interacts with our genes. His studies address important questions like “Why do some people who become depressed commit suicide while others with the same illness do not?”
